goodbye

the time has come to take my leave, you say.
and for a moment i want to follow.
instead i stop myself so i can watch
the foamy water churn around your feet
again and again while you look at me
and tell me you are leaving. my toes dig
at the sand and i know. and how dare you
tell me to calm down. how could i be calm.
when everything is changing. can't you smell
it. I can feel it with every leaf that
crashes to the ground. and you're gone with a
sad smile and a swirl of expectations.

so I guess i?ll see you when I see you
maybe we?ll run into each other in
D.C. i can only wonder how you
intend to save the world when you?ve lost me.
